Chicago, mid-1950s.

Mr. Miller, Dr. Johnson, and Bernice adhere to a daily routine in the elevator car of an old Art Deco tower, exchanging pleasantries and chit-chatting until a defective gear traps them in a doorless shaft. 

The former prisoner of war, the psychologist, and the elevator operator accidentally come to share a secret that can ruin reputations and relationships in a society marked by dissimulation and hypocrisy.

Three personal stories collide as the morals of the wealthy, middle, and working classes clash over love, lust, and loot.
