In 1989, a young Mexican woman crawled into Terrence McBride's barn; bleeding, terrified, fleeing the cartel that had murdered her father. He gave her shelter. He gave her work. Then he gave her his heart. And started a lie that would last 35 years. Carmella Vasquez never meant to fall in love with a stranger. She only wanted to survive long enough to send for the sister she'd left behind. But Terrence McBride was unlike any man she'd ever known. Patient. Faithful. Willing to sacrifice everything to keep her safe. Even his integrity. When a man with money and questionable favors comes calling at the McBride ranch, Terrence faces a choice no amount of love can make clean. The kind of choice that protects the people you love today and costs them everything tomorrow. Desert Promise is the prequel novella to The McBride Legacy - the love story that built a family, the secret that shaped eight children, and the faith strong enough to survive the truth when it finally comes due. A free Christian romantic suspense novella from Bertie Stein.
