A broken-down car. A talking cat. A murder that changes everything.

Freshly divorced and on her way to claim an inherited house in Moonfall Valley from an aunt she never knew, Fiona Mathis expects a fresh start, not a dead body at a cozy inn, in the secluded village of Eldridge Cove.

Detoured from her destination, she is drawn into a murder investigation with only Jasper, a sharp-tongued talking cat, as her guide.

Fiona discovers she can read echoes of the past from ordinary objects, every clue points in a different direction.

A desperate accountant bled dry by blackmail.

A respected historian threatened with career-ending secrets.

Both had every reason to want the victim dead, but neither tells the whole story.

With cryptic magic, mounting danger, and someone determined to silence anyone asking questions, Fiona must uncover the truth before the killer decides her questions are the next secret worth burying.
