Available in EPUB and MOBI formats. Read on your Kindle, phone, tablet, computer and more

The wolverine took the toe on a Tuesday. Edouard Marsh knows exactly what day it is because he has kept a calendar through the Collapse. He also knows that his right big toe is gone, that he is four days from Dawson City, hence the nearest medical care is also four days away, plus however long they make you wait even for an emergency these days. None of that bothers him nearly as much as one particular fact. The wolverine still has his toe. Edouard has already accepted that he is going to lose it. What he hasn't is that the toe is going to end up in a wolverine’s winter cache instead of where it belongs: in a glass of Yukon Jack at Dawson City’s Sourdough Saloon to honour the tradition. The tradition has survived everything. Floods. Fires. The Collapse. Civilization itself. Edouard intends to make sure it survives him. So he follows the wolverine. Across four days of Yukon wilderness, through snow, false trails and a freezing landscape not helping him, Edouard tracks the animal to its den. When he finally finds what he is looking for, he takes only what belongs to him and begins the long journey back to Dawson City. Because sometimes survival isn’t about keeping everything you’ve got. Sometimes it’s about getting back what you’ve lost. The Toe is a darkly comic post-apocalyptic short story set in the Yukon, combining wilderness survival, Canadian folklore, deadpan humour and the strange traditions that people cling to when almost everything else is gone. If you enjoy post-apocalyptic fiction with a distinctly Canadian setting, bleak landscapes, unusual survival stories and a sense of humour about the end of the world, The Toe is a short trip into the Yukon of the Warriors of the Last Days universe.
