Patrick is certain to strike it rich today. All his artful trading brought him to this stretch of stream in the Colorado Territory where he pursues his fortune. But what is the value of the elusive yellow metal? Fool’s Gold takes place in the world of the Tailing Times Mystery Series a few years before Chester arrives in the mining camps, as described in Gold Rush to Murder. Although Patrick and the other characters in this story do not appear in the series, their lives and stories are typical of the time. As flash fiction, Fool’s Gold tells a big tale in very few words. This edition includes special illustrated covers by Brian Phongluangtham. Hopefully, for those who watched TV westerns in the ‘60s, the inspiration for the illustrations is obvious. I asked Brian to watch the intro to one of my favorite shows of that era, The Wild Wild West, and with his skills and fresh ideas, we tell Patrick’s story in a similar style with a few frames.
