THE CAMP is a Camino Child prequel novella, showing the life of that novel's main character, Summer Darling, and where she grew up. As told by her mother, Laura, The Camp is set in a commune in the Pacific Northwest, and shows Summer growing into a beautiful young woman who is noticed more and more by the landowner, a wealthy, depraved man. On the Olympic Peninsula, Paul, with wealth inherited from his grandfather, bought the land and established the commune as an escape from society. Drugs, including alcohol, work-when anyone gets around to it-and sexual partners are shared and shared alike. Laura, who cannot bring herself to leave The Camp and her husband, Adam, knows she must protect her daughter from Paul at all cost. As the years pass, Laura must decide on a different path for her child. Where can she turn? Will she seek advice from her mother, Pat, a person she has not seen or talked with in many years? Will she and her mother's ugly past keep Laura from saving Summer?
