Colin Calls the Help Desk is a collection of witty observations and clever commentary on everything from office politics and corporate culture to team building exercises and workplace etiquette. Elwood Scott has spent (too many) years working in various office settings, as well as a corporate trainer, and knows first-hand the absurdity of the day-to-day routines, work ‘smarter’ initiatives, and of course, the people, of office life. With that in mind, he set out to write a book that contained the situations and co-workers that readers would recognise from their own workplace. Like Brenda, who spends most of her day complaining to others about her workload; Graham, a cynical long-timer who does as little as possible and is just ‘hanging out for a redundancy’; and a barista who seems incapable of getting Colin's name correct. It’s important to point out that the main character, Colin, is a koala, but this isn’t a story about animals. Colin is the only animal in the workplace, and the other characters rarely even mention that he’s a koala. Instead, the book focuses on the humour and absurdity of everyday office life, with Colin serving as a relatable and endearing guide through it all.
