"Tales of Obsidian"

by B Gastelum

Tales of Obsidian is a visceral plunge into a world of concrete, neon, and sacrificial magic.
In Tales of Obsidian, magic isn't a gift; it’s a thermodynamic debt. There are no chosen ones here, only survivors paying in blood what physics demands. If you don’t have the stomach to watch a hero break before he shines, this book is not for you.

The man fell screaming behind them, immobilized. Reaching the edge of the esplanade, the black sedan tried to cut them off. The engine roared, preparing to ram. The girl didn’t stop. She made a quick signal. One of the guardians slid across the pavement like a baseball player, tossing a metallic disc under the car’s chassis. The detonation was dull and magnetic. The sedan’s electrical system died instantly. The vehicle went inert, a two-ton obstacle its occupants no longer controlled. "Transport in visual!" the girl shouted, shoving Mateo toward the street. A matte gray van skidded in front of them. The side door opened with a hydraulic hum, revealing an interior lit with red combat lights. Mateo was thrown inside with little delicacy, landing on the metal floor. The girl jumped in behind him, followed by the three guardians. The last one banged the roof of the cab twice.
