A Norwegian woman, Rita, goes missing én route from Oslo to her home and businessman husband, Henrik, in Japan. The husband hires a detective who once had an intimate relationship with her. In good Agatha Christie style, there is one red herring after another. The reader is kept guessing until the very end. A wealthy Norwegian businessman, Henrik, living in Japan, calls his Norwegian friend and detective Gunnar and tells him that his wife has been missing for three weeks, during a trip from Norway to Japan. He convinces the detective to do the same trip in order to find her. An added complication is that Rita had once been Gunnar´s girlfriend. She had married Henrik on the rebound years earlier when she and Gunnar broke up after a bitter quarrel. He accepts Henrik´s request, but their relationship has long since cooled. What happened to Rita?
